Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 3, 2026
Last updated: April 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how AppCore LLC (the company operating ReVal, the iOS app) ("ReVal," "AppCore," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
This Privacy Policy is intended to describe our practices in plain language and to meet common disclosure requirements (including U.S. state privacy laws). It is not legal advice.
If you are a resident of a U.S. state with an enacted consumer privacy law, see State-Specific Disclosures below.
1) Information we collect (and how we collect it)
We collect information in three ways: (A) information you provide, (B) information collected automatically when you use the Service, and (C) information from third parties.
A. Information you provide to us
- Account information (optional): If you create an account, we receive information needed to authenticate you (for example, an account identifier and, depending on the provider, your name and/or email address).
- If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide your name and email address, and you may choose to use Apple's private email relay.
- If you use Google sign-in, Google may provide information such as your name and email address.
- Item photos and scans: Photos you capture or select from your photo library for item scanning/analysis.
- Voice input: If you use the voice dictation feature during item re-analysis, audio is processed on-device using Apple's Speech framework to produce a text transcription. We do not record, transmit, or store audio. Only the resulting text transcription is sent to our servers as part of the re-analysis request.
- Scan history content: Scan results, item titles/descriptions, notes you add, favorites, collection assignments, and related metadata (such as timestamps and pricing data).
- Collection data: Names, colors, and organizational metadata for collections you create.
- Support communications: If you contact us (for example, by email), we receive the contents of your message and contact details you provide.
B. Information we collect automatically
When you use the Service, we (and our service providers) may automatically receive certain information, such as:
- Device and app information: Device type/model, operating system version, app version, language, and similar technical signals.
- Identifiers: Identifiers associated with your device or app instance (for example, analytics identifiers used to measure usage and improve reliability).
- Usage information: Feature interactions and events (for example, app opens, scan started/completed/failed, item re-analysis, collection creation, marketplace listing started/completed, paywall shown, subscription checkout started, feature gate interactions).
- Network information: IP address and general network/connection information may be processed by our infrastructure and vendors when requests are made to our servers or third-party services.
- Local, on-device storage: The app stores scan metadata, images, feature usage counters, user preferences, and read/dismissed states for in-app messages locally on your device to improve performance and support offline access. (You can remove this by deleting scans in-app and/or uninstalling the app.)
We do not collect precise location data unless we add a feature that requests it and you grant permission. As of this version of the app, we do not request location permissions.
C. Information from third parties
We may receive information from third parties in connection with operating the Service, such as:
- Authentication providers: Apple and Google (as described above).
- App Store / StoreKit: Apple provides subscription and purchase status signals (for example, whether your subscription is active). We do not receive your full payment card number.
- Product and book data sources: When you scan an item identified as a book, a third-party book database may return product information associated with the title (e.g., ISBN, author, publisher, cover image, description, categories, ratings). Similarly, UPC lookups may return product information from third-party databases.
- Marketplace data sources: We query publicly available marketplace sources to retrieve pricing data, comparable sales, and sell-through information to provide market context for scanned items.
2) How we use information
We use information for purposes including:
- Provide core functionality: Identify items, generate item descriptions, estimate value ranges, perform item re-analysis with user-provided context, manage collections and portfolio tracking, show scan history, and sync data across devices when you are signed in.
- Operate and maintain the Service: Authentication, account management, subscription and feature access management, security controls, and basic operations.
- AI-assisted analysis: Process item images, user-provided context (text or voice transcription), and related inputs to produce item identification, re-analysis, and value estimates.
- Real-time pricing and market references: Query publicly available marketplace data sources and/or third-party product and book databases to estimate price ranges, retrieve comparable sales, calculate sell-through rates, and provide supporting market context.
- Marketplace listing assistance: When you choose to list an item on a third-party marketplace platform, the Service may use item data (title, description, price, condition, images) to pre-fill listing forms on that platform's website.
- In-app messaging: Deliver messages, tips, updates, and how-to content through our in-app messaging system. Message read and dismissed states are stored locally on your device.
- Customer support: Respond to your requests and troubleshoot issues.
- Communications: Send service-related messages (such as important updates, security notices, or account-related messages). We may also enable push notifications in a future version of the app; you can control push permissions in iOS Settings.
- Improve and debug: Analyze usage trends, diagnose crashes/bugs, and improve performance and user experience.
- Fraud, abuse, and security: Detect and prevent misuse of the Service and protect users and our systems. This includes protection against prompt injection and manipulation of AI analysis features.
- Compliance and enforcement: Comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our terms and policies.
3) AI and item analysis
When you use scanning or re-analysis features, item images and related data are processed to generate identification and value estimates. We use third-party AI services for this processing.
- What we send: We send the photos you scan, item details (such as item title, description, or context used for pricing), and user-provided context (such as text or voice transcription provided during re-analysis) to our servers, which then send this data to our AI processing providers to identify items, re-analyze items, and estimate resale value.
- Who processes it: This data is processed by third-party AI service providers. Their processing is subject to their respective privacy policies and data practices. We use these providers under contractual terms that restrict use to providing our Service.
- Consent: We obtain your permission before sending any such data. The app will ask you to allow "AI analysis" the first time you use scan features.
- How we collect it: You provide photos by taking a picture in the app or selecting an image from your photo library. For re-analysis, you may provide additional text context by typing or voice dictation (transcribed on-device). Item details are generated from the analysis or from your scan history as needed to provide pricing.
- Uses of this data: We use the data solely to provide your item analysis, re-analysis, and value estimates.
- No facial recognition: We do not use your images for facial recognition or to identify individuals. However, images can incidentally contain people or personal information.
- Please avoid sensitive content: Do not upload images that include sensitive personal information (for example: government IDs, financial account information, health information, or other highly sensitive data).
4) How we share information
We share information only as described below:
A. Service providers and processors
We use third-party vendors ("service providers" / "processors") that process information on our behalf to operate the Service, such as:
- Cloud infrastructure providers (hosting, databases, file storage, and server-side processing)
- Analytics providers (to measure usage, troubleshoot issues, and improve features)
- AI processing providers: We use third-party AI services to process scan images, user-provided context, and item details for identification, re-analysis, and value estimates. We obtain your permission before sending data to these providers (the app prompts you the first time you scan). Their processing is subject to their respective privacy policies and contractual obligations with us.
- Authentication providers (to support sign-in)
- Product and book data providers (for book identification, ISBN lookup, and similar product lookups)
We require these providers to protect user data in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection standards. Where we share personal data with third parties, we use contracts and vendor commitments to ensure they provide the same or equal protection of user data as described in this policy and required by applicable guidelines.
Marketplace / pricing sources
To provide pricing estimates, comparable sales, and sell-through data, we may retrieve information from publicly available marketplace sources. Queries to these sources may include item titles, keywords, ISBNs, or UPCs. We do not intentionally provide your name or email address to these sources as part of pricing queries, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any marketplace unless expressly stated.
Marketplace listing assistance
When you choose to list an item on a third-party marketplace platform (such as Facebook Marketplace), the Service interacts with that platform's website directly on your device to pre-fill listing details. Your login credentials for third-party platforms are not sent to or stored on our servers. Authentication cookies are stored locally on your device and can be cleared at any time from the app's settings.
B. Legal, safety, and rights
We may disclose information if we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or lawful governmental request
- Protect the rights, property, and safety of ReVal, our users, or others
- Investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected fraud, abuse, or security issues
- Enforce our terms, agreements, and policies
C. Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction (subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice requirements).
D. With your consent / at your direction
We may share information when you request or direct us to do so.
E. Aggregated or de-identified information
We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
5) Selling, sharing, and targeted advertising
- No sale of personal information: We do not sell your personal information.
- No targeted advertising: We do not use your information to serve third-party targeted ads based on your activity across apps or websites ("cross-context behavioral advertising"), and we do not share personal information for that purpose.
6) Data retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service and for legitimate business purposes, such as security, dispute resolution, and compliance.
Examples:
- Account + scan history: If you are signed in, scan history, collection data, and associated metadata may be retained until you delete scans/collections or delete your account.
- Stored images: If you choose to upload scan images for syncing/history, they may be retained until deleted by you (or until account deletion is processed).
- In-app messages: Message read and dismissed states are stored locally on your device only.
- Feature usage counters: Counters tracking free-tier feature usage (such as reanalysis count and listing count) are stored locally on your device only.
- Analytics and logs: Analytics and server logs may be retained for a period necessary for debugging, security, and performance analysis, then deleted or de-identified.
7) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8) Your choices and controls
You can control your information in several ways:
- Revoking consent for AI data sharing: We only send scan photos and item details to our AI providers after you grant permission in the app. If you do not grant permission when prompted, we do not send that data. To revoke consent going forward, simply do not use the scan feature, or request deletion of your account and data as described below.
- Delete scans: You can delete scans within the app (which removes associated scan history data, and may remove associated stored images depending on your settings and sync state).
- Delete collections: You can delete collections within the app.
- Delete your account: If you are signed in, you can request permanent account deletion from within the app's Settings. This is designed to delete your user record and associated scan data stored in our backend. You may also contact us to request deletion of your data.
- Sign-in controls: You can manage sign-in authorizations through your Apple ID and/or Google account settings.
- Device permissions: You can control camera, photo library, microphone, and speech recognition permissions in iOS Settings.
- Third-party marketplace sessions: You can disconnect and clear third-party marketplace login sessions at any time from the app's settings.
- Push notifications (if enabled): If we add push notifications in the future, you can enable/disable them at any time in iOS Settings.
- Uninstall: You can uninstall the app to remove locally stored app data on your device (subject to iOS behavior and any system backups you control).
9) Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10) International transfers
We are based in the United States, and our vendors may process information in the U.S. and other countries. These countries may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction.
11) Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice within the Service or by other means.
